Phoenix Clearance Limited was the first commercial Landmine Clearance and Bomb Disposal company established in New Zealand, the first commercially registered Clearance Agency in Laos PDR and are now the first accredited commercial Landmine Clearance and Bomb Disposal company in Cambodia.

Minefield Clearance Completed Ban Sai Phoukoud District Xieng Khoung Province

The mission through a partnership between PCL and MIVAC and Australian Charity was to Locate and destroy all Landmines and UXO on Khangunghor 1 Minefield.The PCL Team in 28days achieved the following:

· Minefield area cleared 7,777m² 90 mines located and destroyed

· School yard cleared 2500m² 6 x 60mm Mortars located and destroyed.

· Garden in proximity to the minefield 5000m² and 65 x 57mm HE Artillery rounds and 34 x 57mm White Phosphorous Artillery rounds and 3 x 2.75in FFAR Rockets located and destroyed.

· Surrounding area of the minefield 126,140m² locating and destroying 18 x BLU 26 cluster munitions and 3 x 81mm White Phosphorous (WP) Mortars and 1 x 3.5in Rocket.

· Totals = Landmines 90, Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) 124.

· Much information on the adjacent 2 minefields (within 400m) that are known to contain functioning M14 Anti-personnel Blast mines and have inflicted casualties recently A young boy tending cattle lost his lower leg December 2008.

The MIVAC Charity www.mivactrust.org is seeking funding support to continue the work on eradicating these minefields.

This week 23 February

PCL signed and commenced work on a project with the lao government ministry of energy and mines and several Japanese companies, The Okinawa Electric power Company Inc, Nedo, Okiden Sekkei Company Inc, and Shimizu Corporation, for a small hydro power dam in Moung mai district of Phongsali. With help from PCL, Lao government and Japanese Companies, 24 hour electricity will be supplied for several villages that have only ever had electricity by generators.
